Because of Camp...Rachel's Story

"Camp has helped me to find who I really am."

I’ve been going to Camp Talooli for as long as I can remember. Camp is a place where I can truly be myself and I don’t have to worry about reality. Because of camp I have become a better person.

I remember coming to camp for the first time as a day camper when I was five years old. I couldn’t wait because I had so much to look forward to. I knew the very first day of camp that I would love it! The counselors were great, the activities were fun, and I just felt comfortable there.

Camp has also taught me things that I will need to know for the rest of my life. I have definitely become more independent and more of an individual. Camp has helped me to find who I really am. Every year that I come to Camp Talooli I discover new things about myself because of the experience that camp provides me. Nobody at camp will ever tell you, “You can’t,” unless it would be unsafe or inappropriate. This year, as a CIT 2, I really felt like I could be myself at camp because I was in a safe place and among friends. This past year at school I often worried too much about what I was wearing and other things like that. I was too focused on my appearance and I wasn’t focusing on what was really important which, at the time, should have been my schoolwork. Camp helped me to regain my self-confidence and it has helped me to prioritize.

I love Camp Talooli and I don’t know what I would do without it.
