Meet the Staff 2014!

Camp Talooli has one of the greatest summer staffs around. With nearly 80% of our staff returning each year, our staff members are incredibly skilled, innovative, and enthusiastic about sharing their love of summer camp with Talooli campers. This is a way for us to share just how special each of our counselors, program staff, and leaders are.

Cassia Chapman

Position at Camp this summer:

CIT Instructor

How many years have you been coming to Camp Talooli?

9 years! Prior to becoming a CIT Instructor, Cassia attended Camp as a camper, CIT, and a day/overnight counselor.

What is the funniest thing a camper has ever said to you?

There have been multiple occasions when my young campers (almost always the 5 or 6 year old girls) have asked if I was married to or dating the guys on staff that I had talked to. Often times, if I spoke a passing sentence to a male staff member the camper would immediately inquire as to whether we were married/dating, or not. I was always surprised and confused, but often entertained when that happened as well!

What is your favorite theme week?

I have absolutely always loved any theme week that involves Peter Pan and Captain Hook!

What career are you currently pursuing?

I am currently attending Clarkson University for an undergraduate degree in Biology. I hope to one day be able to "re-code" adult stem cells to form patient-specific organs for transplant!

If you were a superhero, what would your superhero name be?

Miss. Quito! (get it...mosquito)

What are you most looking forward to about this summer?

Taking on a new role as a C.I.T. instructor! I'm excited to not only see the campers grow and develop, but myself as well.

What is the your favorite part about being on staff at Camp Talooli?

Everyone is incredibly supportive and respectful to one another. I have made many memories and close bonds with staff members, and they are also great to bounce new/creative ideas off of.

What are the most important skills you have learned working at summer camp?

  • Leadership, definitely!
  • Not to panic if/when a snake falls on you, but instead to tell it as a fairly humorous story ;)
  • I have learned about how kids act and react to one another in a new and different environment.
  • Also, I think my campfire cooking skills have greatly improved!
