Pre-K Day Camp

Camp Talooli offers summer day camp (Monday-Friday) for preschool-aged campers.

The Pre-K Day Camp program differs from our typical day camp program in order to meet the social and developmental needs of this population. With a maximum of 8 campers per week, this program has two full-time counselors that work together to lead, teach, and support the Pre-K program.

The preschool program operates out of our newly renovated VanDyke Lodge that sits atop a hill overlooking Lake Temalo. Campers will participate in daily arts and craft projects, swimming, music, boating, campfire cooking, nature-based learning programs, and teambuilding activities. Children may also participate in daily Red Cross Swimming lessons taught by a certified Water Safety Instructor. Like all of the Talooli programs, our activities are intentionally designed to meet the developmental needs of campers and to create an positive learning environment. Our goals for for this program are for campers to have fun, meet new friends, learn about nature through hands-on activities, and develop new skills.

The Pre-K Day Camp Program will not follow the same schedule as the typical day camp program. However, they will participate alongside day and overnight campers in areas such as boating, swimming, flag raising/lowering, special camp events, our Thursday Mega-Dog cookout, and more.

The following is an example of what a typical day may look like:

8:45 Arrive, Participate in Flag Raising
9:15 Morning Meeting and Snack
9:30 Nature Activity/Hike
10:00 Boating/Fishing
11:15 Lunch
12:15 Arts & Crafts Project

Criteria to Attend

In order to participate in the Pre-K Day Camp program, campers must meet at least one of the following:

  • Be 4 or 5 years old by the time they attend Camp Talooli
    • Most Pre-K campers will be 4 or 5 years old and getting ready to enter kindergarten in the fall.
  • 3-year-olds that have already attended a preschool program
    • Our program has relatively few 3 year-olds due to the stamina and independence required for a full camp day. Please read the following paragraph explaining the readiness skills we look for.

Our counselors and nurse(s) are prepared to support campers in many ways, however, Pre-K campers should be independent with using the bathroom. Additional readiness skills include: being able to dress (and undress) themselves for swimming with minimal assistance from staff. They should be able to carry their own backpack, follow directions, and keep up with a full camp day. While we do schedule downtime for our Pre-K campers, we do not generally have a nap time at Camp.

Talooli’s staff-to-camper ratio is in accordance with the American Camp Association standards, and there is an on-site registered nurse.

Registration for Summer 2025 will open on February 5 at 10am for returning families. New Families can register on February 6 at 10am.
